First up, the French election.

After the first round of voting, the runoff is now between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen.

And it seems as if Macron is the most likely winner.

But as Jonathan Femby says in this week's cover story in The Spectator, France's new

young emperor is marching towards disaster. Jonathan joins me now, along with a journalist

and Elizabeth Mute. So Jonathan, in your piece, you begin with this recent story about

Macron and his response in the first few days after his success. What happened?

Well, he was at a breastasserie in Montparnasse,

which I've been to a number of times. They have a very nice steak tartar, I'd say, indeed,

and he came out, and there were journalists outside, they weren't allowed in, and it was kind

of celebration for the first round victory, and some people wonder whether he should have been

celebrating, because he seemed to be celebrating victory as a whole. And his speech at the end of the first round was very much,

you know, as if he won the whole thing.

But he came out and he told the press basically,

you know, I'm just giving the dinner for,

it was ham and asparagus with red wine,

in case you want to know.

And I'm giving a thank you dinner
