Welcome back to another episode of five minutes in church history. On this episode we are going

back to the fourth century to talk about a Christian Roman woman who is very significant in her lifetime,

McCrina.

Now, first we have to make a distinction.

This lady is known as McCrina the younger

to distinguish her from Macrina the elder.

They are in fact related.

Macrina the elder is her grandmother,

and Macrina the younger is, well, obviously her granddaughter.

These were very wealthy Romans, aristocratic Romans, actually. and

they were very wealthy Romans, aristocratic Romans actually, and they were devoted Christians, very committed to the church

and very committed to the Christian faith.

If we think about this, she was born in 330, but her

grandmother, a very godly woman, would have lived before Constantine and at a time

when Rome was persecuting the church.

So this was a family that experienced persecution

and then all through Macrina the Younger's lifetime

grew up in that post-persecution,

Constantine Roman world.

This was her world.

And what's interesting about McCrina
