Rumor no more.

C. NBC says Apple has acquired the audio recognition app Shazam for some amount of money.

Silly have made to think that Apple would let people know the amount.

Instead, we turned to the rumor I skipped yesterday.

That was the Friday story from Tech Crunch that put the price of the deal at close to $400 million. What does Apple plan to do with Shazam?

Well, it's not going to tell you how much they paid. Do you really think they're going to tell you why they paid it in

anything but the most general terms.

In a statement to see NBC, Apple said,

we are thrilled that Shazam and its talented team

will be joining Apple since the launch of the App Store

Shazam has consistently ranked as one of the most popular apps for iOS.

Apple Music and Shazam are a natural fit, sharing a passion for music discovery,

and delivering great music experiences to our users.

Yeah, okay.

But as Segway nerd pointed out on Twitter, Shazam already works with Siri, which already works with Apple Music.

The NBC acknowledges this, though, it suggests the acquisition likely signals Apple's

interest to expand its use of the technology.
