Beat by Dre by Apple is one step closer to an actual thing.

The Mac Observer says the European Commission on Monday

announced that it was fine with Apple's proposed $3 billion acquisition of

Beats Music and Beats Electronics.

According to the E.C.'s statement on the deal, the Commission concluded that the

combination of the two businesses did not raise

competition concerns because the combined market share of Apple and Beats Electronics

is low. That's apparently true for both the electronic side and the music side.

Of the headphone market, the E.C. noted that a large number of global competitors such as Bose,

Senheiser, and Sony would remain. The Commission doesn't see Apple's control over

Beats streaming music service as a serious issue either. On that point the Commission

said the Commission concluded that Apple faces several competitors in the European economic area, such as Spotify and Dizer,

making it implausible that the acquisition of a smaller streaming service that is not active in the European economic

area would lead to anti-competitive of facts.

No word yet on when Uncle Sam will put his John Hancock on the deal, though that should happen relatively soon.
