At least one financial analyst out there still thinks Apple is going to build and sell a car of its own.

This does, however, seem to be based on little more than how much money Apple could make on such a machine and what a good idea he thinks it would be.

Late last week, Barron's had Guggenheim analyst Rob Serra floating the idea again, saying that Apple needs big total addressable markets to keep its

stock going higher.

To that end he said he expects Apple ultimately launches a self-driving car despite a lot of the world having moved on from that idea.

The way he sees that cars are complex products and Apple is a product company, particularly good at engineering the integration of

hardware and software.

This is true.

Ish? After that Apple summit a few weeks ago,

I started to wonder whether Apple was a product company

or a communications company.

So far, with the exception of accessories, everything Apple has done has been about communication.
