On a long road trip recently I noticed that Apple Maps was putting a speed limit sign in the upper left

corner of the screen. Apple Maps also lets you know which lane you should be

in to get where you're going in many parts of the country, not just telling you to be in the left lane, for example,

but showing arrows of the lanes you should be in drawn more brightly than arrows for the

lanes you shouldn't be in.

To me, it's improved gradually, but in impressive ways since its launch.

Now Apple's apparently starting over.

Actually, it apparently started over a couple of years ago.

N-Gaggett highlights a report from Tech Crunch hitting some of what Apple plans to change

in maps and how the company plans to change it. The piece had Eddie The Stuff Q telling

Tech Crunch that Apple will ditch its current data set for one that it's compiled on its own. The current data comes from a few sources such as

Open Street Map and Tom Tom, which did not have a good Friday. More on that in a bit.
