The joke was made here yesterday that with the introduction of an $899 Macbook Air, Apple can finally

say it has a laptop for under $1,000 with a straight face. That's because while the company technically

had a laptop under 10 Benjamin's, it was only one Washington under 10 Benjamin's. That's $1 under $1,000.1,000 for those of you who don't speak U.S. currency slang.

One might think the company would take some kind of hit by upping the laptop's specs modestly

while lowering its prices fairly drastically.

They may however make that up in volume.

Apple and Cider had JP Morgan analyst Rod Hall issuing a note to clients on Wednesday, wherein he said by dropping the entry-level

MacBook Air price by $100, Apple has let itself into a new and massive $63 billion per year notebook market. Was it not already there?

Well there was in notebooks but it wasn't in in the notebooks sweet spot in Hall's estimation.
