From a post written by Apple CEO Tim Cook on the company's website. A few years ago, users of internet services began to realize that when an online service is free, you're not the customer,

you're the product.

But at Apple, we believe a great customer experience shouldn't come at the expense of your privacy.

So wrote Tim Cook nearly two and a half years ago.

The words then were largely seen as a swipe against Google, but the same words carry at least as

much weight these days, probably more so against the social network Facebook. Eng gadget had Cook speaking yesterday to recodes Kara Swisher and MS NBC's Chris Hayes,

during the interview the piece says, Cook commented on Facebook's data privacy standards as well as the ongoing

Cambridge Analytica scandal. We've never believed that these detailed profiles of people that have incredibly

deep personal information that has patched together

from several sources should exist, he said, adding that these sorts of profiles can be abused

against our democracy, it can be abused by advertisers as well.

Last week, Cook said it might be time for regulation of the use of such personal data.

While he'd rather see no regulation, Apple CEO now thinks

were beyond that, adding I do think it's time that a set of people think deeply
