You want to know something truly fascinating? The

Inquirer out of the UK says Sony Mobile Chief and President of

Northwest Europe Pierre Perone thinks Apple is missing out by only updating its smartphones once a year.

To give that comment context, called to Mac points out, Apple was responsible for 15% of the world's smartphone shipments in 2013 and as much as 56% of all the profit.

Sony on the other hand accounted for only 3.8% of the world's smartphone shipments in 2013 and is barely

eking out a profit company wide. Adding injury to injury another piece on

Sony from The Verge says Sony is closing

two-thirds of its retail stores in the US this year. That'll drop their number from

31 stores to 11 locations as the company moves to further streamlined costs and continue

focus on existing partner relations.

There is no joy in the Sony store news.

Jobs will be lost and retail locations will be hurt

because shopping in a place where stores are closed can sometimes be depressing

or even scary enough that people stop going to the stores that are open and doing fine,

or were before the store next door closed.
