Summary

On this episode we talk to Lío Mehiel, a  Puerto Rican and Greek actor, artist, and filmmaker who stars in the Netflix feature film, Mutt. The film tells the story of Feña,  a trans man that has a wild day including running into an ex, dealing with estranged family, and the overall challenges of being a young person navigating life and transitions. Lío’s critically acclaimed performance in Mutt earned them the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award in Acting, making them the first trans  actor to ever win the award.   Most recently, Lío returned to Sundance 2024, starring opposite Leslie Grace, Sasha Calle, and Residente in In the Summers, which won the festival’s top honor of Grand Jury Prize in the U.S. Dramatic Competition.   In this powerful and vulnerable conversation, we learn Lío’s career trajectory, what it was like to portray such complex and multidimensional Latine and trans characters, and the projects and themes that speak to them as an artist. Lío is a phenomenally talented actor and someone we know we’ll see continue earning accolades. Watch them right now on Netflix’s Mutt.
