In your bad tradition, the oriki is something that's really important in that

all reap is head in your body and then key is to greet. So it's ultimately greeting your head,

greeting your fate, greeting your destiny, greeting your personhood. It's an affirmation to your

spirit. It's a hype mantra and oftentimes you get one when you're born and it is said and sang

at moments where you need to be reminded of your greatness and special ceremonies. So birthdays,

weddings, and oftentimes funerals. And I think about the just the representation of this thing

that exists purely to make you feel good about who and who you are. And I mean, I think the Black

diaspora has it in all these different forms, you know, in hip-hop when Jay-Z's called himself

that's him gassing himself up, you know, in Christianity when we talk about King of King,

Lords of Lords, Alpha and Omega, that's a form of an oriki. So I wanted to talk about it in this book

because to really present us with something that will gass us up in a world that's often trying

to tear us down. It's almost like a blanket.
