But in this conversation, we're talking about reconstruction, which I think is so apropos to the times in which we're living,

but also as we look at liberation and declarations of independence and what does freedom look like,

where did we go wrong? What happened during that period when America could have been great?

Take a listen. The day that Robert Lee surrendered, and they said on that day,

because again, as you mentioned, the vast majority of people in the South did not own people.

They did not own human beings. They may have aspired to, and the vast majority of people that died

in the Civil War fighting for the South did not own human beings. They didn't become galvanized

until Robert Lee surrendered.

And then there was this whole us versus them, South versus North.

The whole Confederacy actually became galvanized around that flag and around this notion

of southern pride and heritage.

And northern aggression.

And northern aggression, which was a campaign.

So I wanted to talk about that too.
