Hey everybody, welcome to the All Things Fishing Podcast, a podcast where each week I talk about just that.

0:13.2

This is All Things Fishing.

0:17.1

Hey, everybody, I'm excited to be recording the third episode of the All Things Fishing podcast this week.

0:22.9

I think Monday is going to be the day that I record my podcast. I've been doing the last few episodes on Monday.

0:29.6

I think it just works best for me. So, yeah, Monday is going to be my day for recording the episodes.

Anyway, this week I just wanted to talk a bit about lures. And when I see

0:38.8

lures for beginners, I mean like, um, it is a, it's usually a plastic thing with hooks embedded

0:45.1

into it. Usually these hooks are treble hooks, which means three hooks welded together.

0:50.7

That looks like a lot like a grappling hook. It looks exactly like a grappling hook.

0:55.8

And then most of them have like a spinner on the back or even two, one on the front and one on

1:01.3

the back. And I call them spinner. There's probably a better word for it. But the water pushes

1:06.4

against it as you're reeling it back in and it makes it turn it makes it like turn twist usually the

1:12.1

spinner is metal and it catches the fish's eye it like um shines a bit so yeah that's what a lure is

1:19.2

the way you use a lure is you cast it jerk it so usually you want to like jerk it a bit like

1:25.8

you reel a bit then you give it like a tiny jerk then you reel a bit and you give it a tiny jerk that's what you usually want to like jerk it a bit, like you reel a bit, then you give it like a tiny jerk, then you reel a bit and you give it a tiny jerk.

1:29.9

That's what you usually want to do because that makes the fish think it is a dying minnow or like a, like, it gives it the impression it's like an easy meal and it goes up and it attacks it and then you have a fish on the hook.

1:43.6

One of the bad parts about loavers is that you have to, one of the bad parts about lures is that

1:52.0

it really gets stuck. Since it's, since almost all lures use treble hooks, it's three times

2:00.0

the amount of hooks that can get stuck inside the

2:02.5

fish's mouth, especially with catfish. Catfish have really tough mouths. It's really hard to get

2:08.0

lures out of catfish's mouths. So yeah, that's the one bad part about lures. A good part, however,

2:14.8

is that you don't have to replace it nearly as much. Like you can just, yeah that you don't have to replace it nearly as much.
