I'm Jolenta Greenberg, a comedian and culture critic, and I will be serving as your reality

TV dramaturg.

Quick reminder, a dramaturg is a researcher that gives background information on theatrical

productions and helps put dramatic works into cultural context.

And a reality TV dramaturg just does that for reality TV because it's real art too, just like theater.

It's storytelling like every other form of entertainment.

And the characters we see on reality TV, they aren't any trashier or less complex than any other characters you'll see in movies or plays or literature.

They just have a different aesthetic,

a different look, they maybe have more fillers, or they're a little more outspoken, but they're

no different. We're still talking about archetypes right now, and those are the different

kinds of characters we come across in reality TV. Architects are like the character blueprint that maps out the sort of general motivation of a character and their general characteristics.

And these archetypes represent characters that are found in every kind of storytelling.

And right now we are talking about friend archetypes, all the kinds of friend characters that show up in all forms of entertainment. And this week's friend is a

sweetie. She wears her heart on her sleeve. I'm talking about the lover. The lover is an extra

loyal friend or a love interest for the main character. And the lover is great at creating a warm,

welcoming atmosphere. She likes being a safe space for her friends. And the lover is great at creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. She likes being a safe

space for her friends. And because of that, people often tell her their secrets or go to her when

they're going through a hard time. We saw this on Summer House. When Carl and Lindsay were just friends,

before they dated again and got engaged, she was definitely that lover friend to him. In the season when

his brother passed, she was the first person in the house he went to. He like ran to her bedroom.

Clearly, she creates that warm, safe lover space for him to go to. And when the lover shines her
