2024 Kirk here with another 2021 episode for you all,

keeping the feed going as I begin work on Strong Songs season 7.

This time around it is my fall 2021 episode on Janet Jackson's Love Will Never Do Without

You, which she wrote and produced along with the legendary duo Jimmy Jam

and Terry Lewis.

I hope you're all doing well out there this summer

or winter depending on which hemisphere you're in and that you're finding time in your day for music.

I have been practicing a lot lately still working mostly on guitar and heading toward an actual

comprehensive grasp of the fretboard and the harmonic layout of the fretboard.

I tend to hold my guitar playing to the same standard as my sax playing, since that's basically where my musical bar is set for any instrument, so it's easy for me to kind of lose track of my progress on the guitar, just like on its own terms.

I'll say something like, man, I can't play everything that I can play on sex and so I'll feel frustrated and then my teacher will say

dude you've learned a lot over the last few months you're actually doing really well and that's a nice

feeling so you know keep your progress in perspective if you're learning a new instrument.

Before we get into that Janet episode I wanted to make another music recommendation

and share an album with you all that I have been on about for a year in various formats in my newsletter on social media

But I don't think that I have directly talked about it on strong songs that album is Dawn by the singer Yeba, stage name for the

Incredible Abbey Smith. Dawn was produced by Mark Ronson, known as the guy who

helped Amy Winehouse turn back to black into the masterpiece that it is, but who has also

produced loads of other artists.

He is an incredible talent and a really amazing producer.
