Welcome to the Ransom Heart Podcast. I'm Alan Arnold and this summer we're doing a

podcast series we titled Love and War. If you haven't heard part one of the

series it aired last week so I encourage you to start there.

This week is part 2 of the series, and we pick up with the second great shock of marriage.

Now if you heard last week's podcast you'll know the first shock is

marriage is hard, but the second great shock which usually follows right on the

heels of the first one is that both people in the marriage are a royal mess. Now, doesn't that seem like

impossible at first because when you were dating they were perfect and you were

perfect and now nobody's perfect and that's what we're

going to talk about in this podcast it's from chapter 3 of the book 11 war and

the title of the chapter is a perfect storm.

I fell into a burning ring of fire, Johnny Cash. So God creates Adam and Eve, man and woman. He brings them close together, about as close

as two living beings can get,

murderously close.

He puts them in a marriage.

And they all live happily ever after, right?

Why are you laughing? What was that cynical snort?

Just this morning, Stacy and I were talking about marriage as we know, and we came to a sobering realization.

We can't name one single marriage that hasn't been through deep

waters in the last three years. Not one. And we know a lot of people and therefore a lot of

marriages between family, friends, church, work, and the neighborhood,

you think we would be able to point to some couple who is trouble-free. We can't. We can't find one. Not one. Every single married couple we know is either
