Summary

On March 22, 2018, 24-year-old Alex Woodworth was stabbed 16 times and killed by 20-year-old Ezra McCandless. The two had an unusual relationship with one another, in that McCandless left her boyfriend Jason Mengel for Woodworth, who was a barista at a local coffee shop that she and Mengel frequented. But eventually, McCandless wanted to get back together with Mengel, and figured she would look more sympathetic if she was a victim to Woodworth attacking her. So she violently killed him and staged the whole thing.

0:00.0	Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of True Crime with Kendall Wray. Thank you so much for joining me today. And if you're new to the show, then welcome. I'm so happy to have you. Well, guys, today I've got to say, the case that I'm going to be covering, I'm going to be telling you about,
0:22.1	is one of the weirdest cases I have ever come across. There were so many moments when
0:27.1	researching this case where I just felt flabbergasted. I mean, I've covered plenty of toxic
0:33.3	love triangles, unfortunately, but it will never cease to shock me how far some people are actually
0:40.2	willing to take things. I'm going to be telling you about the murder of Alex Woodworth, who seemed like
0:45.7	such a sweet soul, and his life was brutally taken by someone who was selfishly just trying to fix
0:52.8	their own reputation.
0:54.8	Now, getting into the case here, of course, as always, I like to start by telling you as much as I can about the victim.
1:01.3	And Alex, like I said, he seemed like a phenomenal human.
1:05.4	And it made me really sad when prepping for this episode because in pretty much all the coverage on the case, he is very
1:13.1	overshadowed by his killer. And it's, I think, because her behavior is so outlandish and
1:19.7	insane that most of the coverage spends most of the time talking about her, but he gets kind of
1:26.3	lost in the storytelling oftentimes. And he was a really,
1:30.5	really cool person that deserves to be highlighted and talked about. So I want to start out by
1:35.6	telling you about him, of course. So Alexander Woodworth was born on January 1st, 1994 in St. Croix Falls,
1:43.0	Wisconsin to John and Kimberly Woodworth. and he grew up in Osceola,
1:46.9	Wisconsin. He was the oldest of four, and that is a role that he really seemed to be amazing at,
1:51.8	because all of his siblings just adored him. And here's a sweet example of that. Okay, so his sister,
1:57.1	Sarah, said that when they were kids, she ended up cutting her hair very short because she
2:00.8	wanted to fit in with all the neighborhood boys so that she could play with them, but also to
2:04.6	spend more time with Alex. And another thing you'll pick up about Alex is he was super, super smart.
2:09.8	And he really used that gift to try and help his younger siblings in school. And his sister said
