Welcome back to our second episode discussing blood quantum. Today we approach

this topic from a more personal level. We're going to talk about how it affects our

love lives. On our last episode we really got into the sort of federal policy and

the history and the scientific aspects but all of this is so deeply personal

when we talk about blood quantum and I think one of the things that comes up

over and over again I feel like every time I'm hanging out with especially

Native women we are always thinking about blood quantum and our future

fictional sometimes not so fictional children which is wild that that's

something that comes up so often. And Matika some things have changed I'd say

since we recorded this episode maybe you might want to talk about why this is

particularly salient to you right now. Yeah we recorded this episode last fall so

you know here we are a couple about eight months later and surprise surprise I'm

three weeks away from having a baby. Yes yes it's true I have a man his name

is Lino and he asked me to marry him last week. It's so exciting! Yeah this is

happening. It's wild how much things can change in just about a year. This stuff

is real and now it's even more real so I mean I think this topic of love and

the time of blood quantum is one of those discussions that we have had like

a million times as like young 30-ish year old women who've had to like

navigate finding partners and all of these like racist federal and tribal

policies we've really had no choice but to consider how blood quantum affects

our children and our families and our nations. You're right we have had this
