Tim and Julie Vasquez submitted two lovely essays that Tim wrote when it was time to send their sons off to college. We loved both and today we’re airing the first one called, “The Drive to Oregon”. It’s a beautiful reminder to us all that although the destination is important, it’s the journey that really matters.

1:42.0 | Camden graduated from high school two weeks ago, and we all made it through with surprisingly few tears. It was such a happy time. |
1:49.0 | But three days ago he and I set out to drive to Oregon where he is playing in a summer baseball collegiate league for two months set up by his coaches at University of San Diego. |

2:02.0 | We had our three day drive planned out with stops in San Diego, Palo Alto, Eugene, all on our way to Portland. |
2:10.0 | Portland was our destination. Oh, and raising a confident, self reliant young man who could live on his own was our other destination. |
2:19.0 | The water works began as we said goodbye to Julie and Cody in our garage by Camden's Jeep packed with all of his belongings and enough wood bats to hopefully last all summer. |
2:29.0 | As Julie squeezed her little boy tightly tears ran down her cheeks and we all got really emotional. |
2:35.0 | It had been building in Julie and it was all hitting her now. |
2:38.0 | We said our goodbyes and hit the road. I was doing pretty well at this point. My goodbye was a few days away. |
