Welcome to Thanks for being here. Very short pod that comes out every Sunday morning as

Sundays are such a good time to let go of the day to day and touch base with what matters,

what will matter and what will have mattered. The answer to that question for me is often

found in ceremonies I could watch strangers get married once a week and I'm even more affected

by funerals. Sitting in a service, taking in the story of one life, just another ordinary

person who they loved and who loved them. In a way, eulogies are about the most succinct

source of clarity and direction I can think of. So I ask listeners who have lost someone dear

to share their words and every week I'll read one eulogy here so that we don't forget

there is a point to the pain. We have much to offer. We affect each other deeply and that ordinary

lives are really kind of exquisite when you look at them closely. This is thanks for being here.

This is a very direct and kind of funny and awesome eulogy by a woman named Kelly about her mom.

Our mom didn't want a funeral as much as she loved to go gathering. I think she honestly thought

no one would care enough to show up. I'm not sure she knew just how much of an impact her simple

kindness had on others. One thing that stands out to me is how many people admired our mom,

her fashion sense, her sense of humor, her strength, her genuine interest in others,

her love of being a grandmother and a surrogate grandmother, her ability to be at her best when

you were at your worst. I know she's here with us now and looking out at all of you and I'm sure

her heart is full. How do you sum up someone's complex life in just a few minutes,

but legacy do you leave behind? With our mom, Reed and Kira's beloved grandma,

their her legacy is very tangible. We were all able to curl up in the warmth of one of her

expertly crafted quilts. Cozy and bed underneath one of her extra warm Irish knit wool blankets

pull on a colorful ski hat before stepping out into the blustery cold.
