listening. Darby Crash and John Lennon died on consecutive days in December of 1980, the 7th, and the 8th,

in very different manners. and Crash died first,

which in some ways meant that

his death, while he was kind of angling

for a type of infamy,

his death got instantly swallowed

by the news of John Lennon's death.

It was a heraling end to the year.

I don't know if one could say that it signaled the end of a genre, be it rock or hardcore punk.

You know, Derby Crash had kind of seen hardcore punk evolve without him by the end of the year.

And John Lennon, you know, despite what the posthumous reaction to the Lennon album,

Double Fantasy was, in its immediate injection into the world,

it was not comfortably received or well received at all.

And so there's a way that these two losses kind of signaled an unhappy ending to a chapter for two artists who it felt like had a real potential to evolve past where they were.
