It's Monday, June 9th. Let's get you caught up with

today's seven stories. There's a showdown in California between state and federal authorities.

On Friday, dozens of people were swept up in raids in the Los Angeles area. That's according to U.S.

immigration and customs enforcement and immigrants rights groups. Demonstrators quickly took

to the streets. Most were peaceful, although some self-driving cars were set on fire.

Law enforcement officers dressed in tactical gear were out in force. Video showed police

using tear gas, pellets, and stun grenades to disperse crowds. Then on Saturday evening,

President Donald Trump ordered 2,000 members of the California National Guard to intervene in the protests.

It was the first time in about 60 years that an American president has taken such an

action without a governor's consent.

Trump said it was necessary to protect federal officials and federal property.

He spoke to reporters yesterday next to Marine One.

Well, we're going to have troops everywhere.

California Governor Gavin Newsom responded.

He called the deployment purposefully inflammatory.
