Summary

In this episode, Rachel is speaking to you from her first week of being a lone parent in the house. Dennis now has a full-time job, so Rachel is on her own with the kids. With a big change in routine, things haven’t been going as smoothly as Rachel had hoped for. She shares about the challenging days she’s had as the lone parent, how she’s trying to find her groove, and how through it all, she keeps looking for an adultier adult who is going to step in and help. This story is a metaphor for everything going on in the world today. We are all looking for someone who is going to step in and stop the suffering. But the only person who can do that is you. If you lose yourself in grief and fear, you will bring that energy into the world. This episode will remind you to stay grounded, to meet yourself where you are, and, if all else fails, to pray. On today's episode of the podcast, I talk about the fact that this is my very first week recording

0:06.8

the show as a proper stay-at-home mom. Then this has started working full-time and our routines

0:13.8

and schedules have changed a lot. And I found myself in this past week doing this parenting thing

0:19.8

on my own for most of the day, stepping back and looking around and almost wondering when

0:25.8

is someone going to step in here and help me a little bit. And as I speak to you today,

0:31.0

I realize that that's also how I feel about the state of the world. How I'm waiting for someone

0:36.6

to step in and make a change and keep everyone safe and help us all find that place of compassion

0:46.4

in our hearts for peace and for violence to end. It's a hard time to human right now, but we are

0:58.7

all doing the best we can. I also talk about how to stay grounded and how to meet ourselves in

1:05.2

the energy we're in, whether that's a sense of hopelessness or despair or anxiety and how probably

1:13.6

the answer to what are we going to do now isn't to sit down and meditate, although that could

1:21.0

be a part of it too. This show is sponsored by BetterHelp. Do you ever have that feeling the one

1:30.4

where your life is really good and you know it's really good, but for some reason your brain is

1:34.8

just always telling you otherwise? We can objectively look at our lives and know we are really lucky,

1:40.8

but in the chaos of it all, sometimes you get lost in negative thinking. You focus on the things

1:46.0

that don't work. You don't feel happy or grateful. Your brain just gets in its own way, but that's

1:52.2

where therapy comes in. Therapy helps you figure out what's holding you back so you can work for

1:57.0

yourself instead of against yourself. This is something that I have struggled with in my life

2:01.2

until I began a solid therapy and gratitude practice. Now I'm able to appreciate even the little

2:06.9

things and know they are truly the big things in life. It turns out when you stop to smell the

2:12.0

roses, you really can appreciate them more. If you're thinking of starting therapy, give BetterHelp

2:18.0

a try. It's designed to be convenient, flexible and suited to your schedule and it's entirely
