I'm John Batch for visiting with Joseph Sternberg.

A member of the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal.

He writes political economics.

But we leave Europe because Joseph was many years in Hong Kong before the city was crushed

by the Chinese Communist Party.

And recently, the news has been dominated by the debriefing following the meeting of

the Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Beijing with the leaders of the Chinese Communist

Party, Wang Yi, the chief diplomat, who's comparable to Anthony Blinken.

And Xi Jinping, the chairman of the Chinese Communist Party.

All of this was meant to be a mending of fences.

There are many metaphors here.

And yet we have remarks at the World Economic Forum in these last hours that suggested

the fences are still needing attention.

I read from the FT report, China's premier Lee Chang has criticized a Western push to

limit trade and business ties with the country and promoted international economic cooperation

in a speech that described derisking as a, quote, false proposition.

The quote from the premier.

This is the head of the financial markets in the Chinese Communist Party.

The government should not overreach themselves, said Mr. Lee.
