I welcome Joseph Sternberg, member of the editorial board of the Wall Street Journal.

He's based in London. He writes the political economics the

at Wall Street Journal. He's based in London. He writes the political economics column and most recently his

observations about the president of France, Mr McCrone. What is striking is that

following the European Union vote of some weeks past

where there was an exciting story about far-right parties in major countries,

Germany and France, notably, and how they were doing better in

local elections or polling better in local elections and were expecting to do better than

ever before in the European Union election. The results, however,

showed that the center held very nicely, the center left and the center center,

and the far right party, so they did well. They weren't anywhere close to a majority however

immediately afterwards without we're told now by Voices without consultation with

all of his aides,

Emmanuel McCrone, President of France,

called an Assembly election.

It wasn't necessary, it didn't have to happen,

but in any event, he went forward with calling the election. Now the results are in after the first

round and it appears that Mr McCrone is in a weaker position than he was before he

called the Assembly election.
