Not too many months ago, we did an episode called Four and Twenty Blackbirds, and many of you must have liked it a lot, because we got quite a bit of response from it.

In that episode, we dug into the true meaning behind some of those innocent nursery rhymes and came up with some excellent history,

some of it French, but most of it English. During the Middle Ages, people generally were not able to

express themselves without fear of reprisal.

Gossiping in public or criticizing the king or queen were forbidden,

so the people constructed clever rhymes of protest
