This is the Friends of History Debating Society. I'm John Bachelor. Victory Day, May 9th, Moscow.

The parade is spectacular. This year we have headlines from the Washington Post,

confident of victory over Ukraine Russia exhibits Western War trophies

displaying the armor and other equipment that's been captured on the battlefield in Ukraine

Victory Day itself will continue the tradition of

celebrating the victory of 1945 in the Great Patriotic War, a part part of which is said to be underway now with recapturing Ukraine

as Russian territory.

In other words, there was a delay between 45 and 21, 22, and that delay is now to be completed, is the theory.

NATO itself is debating where we go next. They're thinking

about the meeting in July in Washington, the next NATO summit in which there will be

a new Secretary General.

At the same time, NATO must deal with the fact that Russia thinks it's at war with NATO.

Brussels, not with Kyiv.

And that means that NATO is debating what are we going to do about the fact that we're next.

Moldova believes it's next.

The Baltic states believe they're next.

Nobody disbelieves it. The French president

talks of a European strategic autonomy, that is a polite way of saying our own army. The debate in the EU is not about, we're a

trade organization, let NATO take care of it. No, the debate is the EU cannot defend itself.

What are we going to do about it?

All these are theories, individual economies.
