Good morning and welcome to the Independent Republic of Mike Graham on the dawn of a new era of party politics in this country and if you believe that, I've got some swamp land in Florida

to sell you. It was, however, a day when both main parties took a kicking from the voters

over the miserable handling of the Brexit debacle. So far, it looks like the Tories are on course

to lose hundreds of seats, possibly over 1,000, all across England. But even Labor are losing seats

as well. The big winners appear to be the Lib Dems. We're already crowing that this is their

biggest win in a generation, and they are practically preparing for government. But we've heard all that before, I'm afraid. We'll be talking to Joe Swinson

coming up a little bit later on from the front bench of the Lib Dems. She'll be telling us no

doubt that this proves that Brexit is an issue which the Lib Dems are winning on because they

want to stay part of the European Union. She'll also assure us that this will be extrapolated into a general election,

which of course it won't.

Our team will be analysing the votes as they are counted throughout the morning

and will bring you all the results as they happen throughout the day.

Prime Minister Theresa May and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn

are preparing to address their respective troops later on today.
