Summary
The whole of Jesus' life was lived under the shadow of the cross. As Christ faithfully served His Father each day, the agony of Calvary loomed ever nearer. Today, Sinclair Ferguson begins to reflect on the life of our Lord.

| 0:00.0 | I wonder what the big moments in your life have been. I think most of us have them, and |
| 0:13.9 | the Lord Jesus was no exception. And so this week on Things Unseen, I want to think about |
| 0:19.8 | a few of those moments in Jesus' life. During the year we've actually touched on one |
| 0:25.7 | or two of them already, and we'll no doubt do that again. But this week we're going |
| 0:30.0 | to think together about a few of them. If you're anything like me, the older you get, |
| 0:35.2 | the more it strikes you that there are some moments and events in your life that seem |
| 0:39.6 | to loom especially large. Some of them are crisis points, or tumbling points, or moments |
| 0:45.9 | of special accomplishment maybe, or sometimes moments of loss and pain. And you can remember |
| 0:51.8 | some of the details of those moments years later, even when earlier on in the day you |
| 0:56.9 | couldn't remember where you'd put your car keys. There's just something about particular |
| 1:01.3 | events that make the major chapter headings in the story of our lives. And all this is |
| 1:07.7 | simply part of what it means to be human. And I mention it to remind us that our Lord Jesus |
| 1:13.7 | must have had similar memories too. Certainly he had big moments in his life, moments |
| 1:20.2 | that the preacher G Campbell Morgan described in a book entitled The Crisis of the Christ. |
| 1:27.7 | And in a way, as I say, that's obvious. But in our lives, it underlines that God has a unique |
| 1:35.0 | plan and purpose for us. And the same was true, of course, of our Lord Jesus. And he experienced |
| 1:42.0 | the whole of it in our human nature. The logos, the word of God, became flesh and dwelt among us, |
| 1:50.0 | says John. And that's magnificent theology. The one divine person of the logos was with God |
| 1:56.5 | and was God. But he also became flesh and dwelt among us. And not all moments in his life were |
| 2:03.3 | the same, any more than they are in our lives. I think I've referred before on things unseen to |
| 2:10.2 | what's called the calcedonian definition of 451 AD. Those fifth century theologians who wrote |
| 2:17.8 | the definition said that the Son of God is, quote, acknowledged in two natures, |
