0:10.0	I'm Patrick Miller. Esther is one of the rare books in the Bible which I think
0:16.5	is best enjoyed in a single bite. That's not to say that you won't get anything
0:20.4	out of it by meditating on each chapter or verse slowly.
0:23.8	But it is to say that it's one of the best stories in the entire Bible,
0:28.6	and I find that I feel the narrative tension best
0:31.8	when I read it in one sitting. And that's because
0:34.2	tension is precisely where this story comes to life. Perhaps that's why I love it so
0:39.5	much because I feel tension in my life too, almost every day. Just like Esther there are times when I feel
0:46.4	out of place in this world. I feel like an outsider in my culture like I don't belong
0:50.8	here. I'm in a consumeristic culture and yet Jesus tells me that
0:54.7	happiness doesn't consist in an abundance of possessions. Every ad tells me the opposite
1:00.0	so I feel kind of strange like an outsider in our materialistic milieu.
1:05.0	I live in a hypersexualized culture and yet Jesus tells me that sex is reserved for one man and one woman in a marriage covenant.
1:12.0	Shows are filled with sex.
1:14.0	Ads are filled with sex.
1:16.0	Social media is littered with sexual risque content.
1:19.0	And so I feel strange, like an outsider in our sexualized society. I live in an unforgiving
1:25.9	angry culture and yet Jesus tells me to forgive an endless number of times.
1:30.3	When someone strikes me he says to turn the other cheek, he calls me to love my enemies
