The city of Jerusalem is referred to more than 800 times in the Word of God.

It is, in every sense of the word, God's city.

In Ezekiel 5, verse 5, Jerusalem is in the mind of God, the center of the whole earth.

Think of that.

In Luke chapter 13, verse 34, it is very evident that it is God's

favorite city, and yet a city that the Lord will judge. There's no city like the city of Jerusalem,

and Psalm 87 is a Psalm about that city. It begins this way. His foundation is in the holy mountains.

The Lord loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

Now, this is very important. Why is Jerusalem so emphasized to us? We know that God chose Jerusalem,

in his own perfect choice. But why is Jerusalem

so emphasized to us through all the word of God? The answer is because Jerusalem is symbolic

of the presence of God. Remember, that's the place of the temple. That's the place of worship.

That's the place where the Lord met with

his people. And so it symbolizes for us a life lived in the presence of God. And if you walk through

Psalm 87 and you see all the things that are true in Jerusalem, you'll see all the things that God

wants to be true in our life if we live our lives in his presence. For example, in verse one,

there's a foundation in the holy mountains. What is that? That's stability. Stability comes in the
