The conquest of Egypt and Jerusalem and Damascus.

So we did all of that last week.

In shawlah ala today we will begin the story of the conquest of the

conquest of the Sassanid Empire or the Persian Empire. And again we get back to

the issue of sources and the issue of details.

And when you look at the Arab and Muslim side of the events, the historians,

they of course they have their important timeline, they have the details of quote-unquote our side.

However, our sources don't have anything that was going on on the other side.

And what we have now in our times is that actually a lot of modern scholarship has been done trying to look at the events from the other side's perspective and what's going on from the side of the Persians or the Sassanids and I think that's very fascinating that we're not able to see what's happening on the other side of things.

Now what is the Sassanid Empire? The Sassanid Empire is the more proper name for the Persian Empire and it is the last of the great pre-Islamic

Iranian empires and the Sassan is ruled from around 220 CE to around 651 CE.

And before the Sassanid it was the ancient Parthian Empire of Iran.

So these are the two main empires that every world knowledgeable person should be familiar with, the Partheon, the ancient

Iranians, and then you have the Sassanids.

And the Sassanids controlled at their peak, at their zenith they controlled pretty much most of the

modern Middle East the countries today would be Iran, Iraq, the entire strip of Eastern Arabia.

So this includes Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Yemen,

they actually, the Sassan Empire
