When we invited you for an evening with Michael Gove, we had no idea it would be at such a great

time to help this conversation.

He is now in the eye of a political storm.

The bookmakers, for what their judgment is worth, say that

the most likely outcome is that Michael Gove and Boris Johnson will be the two who go forward

to the Tory party members when it has...

But there are several hurdles to overcome before that.

And also, he hasn't really said much about his manifesto, what he's going to be standing on, what his

Brexit plan is. He's been saving that for us here tonight. And so without further ado,

Well, Michael, I am, we've known each other for a while.

I used to work with Michael at the Times newspaper 20 years ago.

And I remember doing my first interview with you about 10 odd years ago, where I asked you,

as journalists always do, would you like to be leader of the party one day? And you replied, coyly, but not more than that, you said that, and I was looking

at my notes here, I know what qualities leaders need to have, I know what it takes to be in that

job and I know any way that I simply don't

have it. Now, it wasn't just to me. Over the years, you've given varieties of that

emphatic response, not just saying that you didn't want it, but you emphatically couldn't
