Greetings and salutations. Welcome back to Life and Books and Everything. This is Kevin D. Young.

0:14.3

Next week, hopefully I will be joined again with Justin and Colin as we finish off this season before we take a break for the

0:22.9

holidays and we'll be interviewing Carl Truman and talking about his excellent new book, The Rise and

0:28.8

Triumph of the Modern Self. But for today, we have a special interview, and this took place

0:35.1

about 10 days ago at our faithful conference that was hosted at our church.

0:40.3

And after his opening address, I took about 45 minutes to interview my good friend Liggin Duncan.

0:46.7

So I hope you'll enjoy the conversation that Lig and I had a couple of Saturday evenings ago

0:51.8

in front of some appropriately masked and social distance people at our church.

0:57.0

And I was able to talk to Liggin about his background, about his love for Clemson football, about critical race theory,

1:06.0

and, of course, we talked about books. If you're not familiar with Lig, you need to know that he is the Pope of

1:13.9

Presbyterianism. Well, if there was a Pope, he would get a lot of votes. But he was for many years,

1:19.0

the senior minister at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Mississippi, is now the

1:23.6

chancellor and CEO of Reform Theological Seminary. So yes, he is my boss. A lot of people

1:29.9

can say that about Liggin. And in addition to all of those things and writing books and having

1:36.1

a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, he is, as everyone who knows him, can attest a fine,

1:43.2

kind Christian gentleman. And he's a good friend to me and to many

1:47.3

others. So I hope you enjoy this interview with Liggin. Good to have you with us. Well, I don't know if

1:55.9

this is fun for you, but one of the reasons I do this conference, I started one like it, my last church

2:03.6

I've been trying to fits and starts to get it going here, but COVID and other things

2:07.7

interrupt it, but here we are. And for me, I love to be able to bring in friends and leaders

2:16.7

like Liggin and get to hear and preach, of course,

2:19.9

and teach.
