When you think of the classic Beatles shows, what springs to mind?

Is it Hamburg or the Cavern Club?

Is it Candlestick Park or Shea Stadium?

Is it the four of them playing with Billy Preston on the roof?

Or is it that time they rocked the Roundhouse in Camden?

Next to their appearance at Nairn Regal Hall, the Roundhouse is my favourite Beatle gig.

Now, we don't tend to do counterfactuals on this podcast, but this isn't really a counterfactual.

This is a series of gigs that should have happened at the end of 1968 in the roundhouse,

in Camden, in London.

And of course there's a big what-if attached to it.

But you can kind of see, even though it doesn't actually happen, spoiler alert, you can see

how it actually is the invisible connection between

all things white album 68 and all things get back 69. A linkage between those two things,

and it seems insane that they were planning to do this. And how early in 1968 this starts to be talked about.

Yeah, and it is publicised and we shall talk through the whole story of that.

And it did seem to be a very viable, very real concern.

Yes, I mean, they're constantly throughout the last quarter of 1968 talking about this and press statements are going out and the NME and Melody Maker are sort of vying with each other to produce the definitive statement as to when this is going to take place and where it's going to be, what it's going to be, who's going to be on the bill.
