Chapter 51, Lydia is Lydia still, but she's now Lydia Wickham.

Lydia and Wickham got married off of the page and returned to Longborn.

This is a moment in which the sharp edges of the structure of the novel become clear again.

As Tara Menon told us at the beginning of the season, Pride and Prejudice's dialogue

is inverted for most novels of the time.

It's typical in Georgian and Victorian novels, for there to be a lot of exposition at the

beginning of the book, and then a lot of dialogue in the middle, and then exposition at the

end again.

The Prison Prejudice is the opposite, and the plot matches that formula.

The Bennett sisters were all together at the beginning of the novel, then many of them

went off, Jane to London, Lizzie to Kent and then Derbyshire and Lydia to Brighton.

But now they're all together again, and so the chatting is back up.

The direct speech, of course, increases now that Lydia is back in the house.

Not only is she unrepentant about running off with Wickham, she is loud about it.

She goes around town, showing off her ring, she tells Jane that Jane is now a lower status
