Hey nerds, quick bit of enormous news. I am so excited to say that I have a new book coming out in

June of this year, and not only is it just a new book, but it is a fully illustrated retelling

of The Odyssey. It's aimed at children 9 to 12, but don't let that fool you. It's a shortened

retelling, but I kept it true to the original in every way that matters.

Thank you. The Hello, this is let's talk about myths baby, and I am your host, Live here with another reading of the Odyssey, because of course I'm here with another reading of the Odyssey. Last week was actually originally meant to be a reading, but then Laura and I just

recorded that incredibly fun discussion of the Odyssey in different ways. And so I aired that one

instead. But we must keep going in our reading of this, ugh, gorgeously readable, modern translation,

once again, which we are using with immense gratitude to Ian Johnston and Vancouver Island

University.

Speaking of, I'm headed home to Vancouver Island for a few days next week. And if I get anywhere near

Nanaimo, I'll just wave at the university in thanks. I don't know what that'll achieve,

but I'll feel nice about it. All right, I am just excited to get back to reading this. As with past

ones, we'll kind of see how we go, how long each book is.

I'm honestly extra excited for this first section, book eight, because it contains the only major,

I won't say plot point, but like the only major portion, I guess, of the

overall story that I did not include in my children's retelling intentionally, should say.

It's the only one I intentionally did not include, which you will see why I'm excited.

And then in short order, we will get to our guy, Odysseus.

I've been forced to kind of imagine, I keep kind of thinking of Matt Damon because of that

trailer and, God, it's just the most colorless, characterless, Greekless.

I'm feeling really emotional about this.
