I'm Gretchen Rubin and this is a little happier.

One of my college roommates went on to graduate school and she told me something about her writing

process that has deeply influenced the way I approach my own writing and really the way

I approach my life generally.

She told me that she kept a sticky note stuck to her computer monitor that said down with

boredom and that whenever she hit a patch in writing her thesis when she felt bored,

she just figured out a way to leave it out.

And this was a revelation to me that I could just leave out the boring parts.

And now when I write, I skip anything that's boring to me and by the way no one has ever

said anything about missing material, no one notices, and even when I'm living my life,

I try to figure out ways to skip the boring parts.

It's a great motto for writing and for life.
