I'm Gretchen Rubin and this is a little happier. After I graduated from college, one of my good friends

moved to New York City and she started in one of those super intense analyst programs that people

did at investment banks. And so she was working constantly, she was staying up all hours, we never

saw her. And one day she told me a funny story, which was that she had a big project, she had to

give a presentation to a whole room full of people. And so it was very, very important that she

arrive at work on time. Of course, though, you can guess how this goes, she stays up super late,

working on her presentation, she sleeps through her alarm and she wakes up well past the time that

she was supposed to leave her apartment to get to work. So she frantically dresses and she races to

the subway stop on the upper west side, she gets in the train and the announcer comes on the loud

speaker and says, we apologize for any inconvenience, but this local is going to run express

to the financial district. And she sat in the subway car and watched station after station,

flash by, she got there in a fraction of the time that it usually took for her to get to work.

She managed to get to the presentation right before she was supposed to start. And she did it and

no one knew that she had overslaped. And when she was telling me this story later, she said,

it was truly like a miracle. And I remind myself of this whenever a flight gets cancelled or

my subway train starts running local or express in a way that's inconvenient or anything goes wrong.

I think, well, my inconvenience could be somebody else's miracle. I'm Gretchen Rubin and I hope
