I'm Gretchen Rubin, and this is a little happier.

Here's a story that doesn't have much of a point, but it made me happy, and I hope it makes you happy too.

I love living in New York City. I never take it for granted. And one thing I love about it is

its excellent public transportation. And another thing I love about it is that I so often come across

funny, surprising, or interesting scenes when I'm out walking around the streets. Once I saw a piano

on the sidewalk. Once I saw a car in flames, I've spotted many celebrities.

Just the other day, for instance, I saw actor Noah Emmerich wearing a tuxedo.

One site that I did not witness myself, but I heard a lot about, happened on November 3rd, the day of the New York City Marathon.

Now, on the day of the marathon, streets all across the

city are closed for the 50,000 participants who run through all five boroughs. On that day,

it happened. The Detroit Pistons basketball team was in town to play the Brooklyn Nets at the

Berkeley Center that had a game with a 3.30 start time, and they couldn't

go by street. So they took the subway. I wish I could have seen it. It's easy to spot a

professional basketball team. It would have been so fun to see them on the subway together and

watching them make sure not to hit their heads on the way out the

door. No matter how famous or successful you are, and no matter where you're going,

sometimes it's just faster and easier to take the subway. I'm Gretchen Rubin, and I hope this
