I'm Gretchen Rubin and this is a little happier.

I remember this conversation vividly, even though it happened 23 years ago and lasted for

about five minutes.

Jamie and I were newlyweds.

We were living in an apartment in New York City and one morning, very early, Jamie woke

me up and said, you've got to get up, you've got to come see this beautiful sunrise.

And I didn't want to wake up.

I protested, I went, looked out the window for like a second, then I crawled back into

bed.

And the thing is, I didn't know it at the time, but this wasn't an unusual thing for

Jamie to do.

You know, at the time when we were first married, of course, I thought I knew Jamie very

well.

But the fact is, I didn't know him all that well.

And he doesn't often wake me up to look at a beautiful sunrise and he doesn't drag

me to the window to look at the moon.

And I've regretted ever since that I didn't share that moment with him.

And I've reminded myself, don't sleep through the beautiful moments.
