I'm Gretchen Rubin and this is a little happier.

Many years ago, I went to hear a panel about comedy writing and I heard something during that

discussion that I have never forgotten. So it was about four people, very, very established,

well credential comedy writers and they were talking about their experiences and their advice and,

you know, sort of, tales from adventures in comedy writing and then it was time for questions

and answers. And so somebody stood up from the audience and asked a very obvious question,

which is, how do you get a job writing comedy? And one of the panelists gave an answer in just one

sentence that I have never forgotten. And she said, do what you love and then your friends hire you.

And I've always remembered that because obviously this is not true in every situation. This

wouldn't be true in every kind of career, every kind of circumstance. But I think that very often,

when we follow our natural interests and inclinations, it's surprising how often we form the

relationships that can help us to succeed. I'm Gretchen Rubin and I hope this makes your week
