Summary

In this incredibly interesting episode, we get to chat with Albert-Laszlo Barabasi, a Physicist and Data Scientist in Network Theory. Why does hard work not always measure up to success? We out-perform expectations to go the extra mile but somehow always finish a mile short of where we want to be. For too long the link between performance and success has remained a mystery. Now, Albert has used raw data and historic case studies to uncover the unspoken rules behind success so that we can leverage them to our advantage. This is definitely an episode you'll want to revisit.

Again, that's UnmistakableCreative.com slash Life purpose. Yes. So let's talk about what the Q factor is, right? So one of the things that the fact that each project has

0:38.2

exactly the same probability of being the most successful of your life, that actually led to a

0:43.7

mathematical model of how creativity works. And the way this works really is that every project that

0:49.4

you start is like a random number. You pick a random number from a hat, and you and I have access to the same hat.

0:55.9

So we pick a random number from that.

0:58.0

And that could be one or six, throw a dice, right?

1:00.7

It's like, it's totally random.

1:02.7

And then you bring your knowledge and expertise on that,

1:06.5

and that's your cue factor,

1:08.2

and turn that idea into a product.

1:10.3

If you're a scientist, it could be a paper.

1:12.0

If you are a podcast host, could be actually a show, or it could be a book if you are a writer,

1:18.3

whatever that is.

1:19.5

And then you look at the success or the impact of that product, like how many citations

1:24.1

you got, how many people bought it and so on.

1:26.5

And what we find is that the impact of that is nothing but that random number that you

1:32.0

picked from the hat times your Q factor.

1:36.1

That is your Q factor is a number that characterizes your ability to take a random idea
