0:00.0	You probably heard someone say that money is the root of all evil, it's actually a
0:29.2	misquote of 1 Timothy chapter 6, verse 10, which says the love of money is a root of all kinds of
0:36.0	evils. That's very different. So is it wrong for Christians to be wealthy or not? Is it somehow
0:42.8	godlier to live in poverty? Alistair Begg has the answers for us today from God's word on truth for life.
0:50.3	Now we read in the New Testament, James chapter 5 and verse 1. Now listen, you rich people,
1:05.6	weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted and moths have
1:14.4	eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you
1:22.0	and eat your flesh like fire. You have hordered wealth in the last days. Look, the wages you failed
1:30.7	to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters
1:38.2	have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. Incidentally, the Lord Almighty there is the NIV's translation
1:48.3	of Lord Sabaoth. He is the Lord of hosts. He is the Lord Almighty. One of the most wonderful names
1:56.3	are designations of God in Scripture. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the
2:02.8	Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves
2:08.3	in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered innocent men who were not opposing you.
2:16.2	Well, thanks be to God for His word, a prayer, and then we'll look together at the Bible.
2:22.4	We call upon you now our gracious God and loving Father. Beseeching you because in you
2:30.2	all of the fullness of wisdom and light is found and asking that in your mercy you will enlighten us
2:37.7	by the Holy Spirit so that we might have a true understanding of the Bible. We pray that you will
2:44.8	teach us by your word to place all of our trust in you and to serve and honor you as we should
2:51.8	so that we might praise and glorify you in all things and we might also build up our neighbors
2:57.9	by our good example. We pray that we might learn to render to you the love and obedience
3:06.0	which children owe to their parents since it has pleased you, Heavenly Father,
