Summary

It’s a nostalgia-filled episode this week as Michael Malice (“YOUR WELCOME”) invites his good friend, writer, and author, Lisa De Pasquale, back onto the show to celebrate the release of her brand-new book, The Gen X Handbook for Middle Age. Michael and Lisa talk about how crazy some of the 80s kids shows were, why many of the things loved by Gen X have stood the test of time, how confusing a thumbs up emoji can actually be, and the one thing Boomer’s really did wrong, but maybe we can’t blame them for it.

Music Good afternoon, Michael Malice here. Let that be your welcome for the next star. We have with us a returning guest. Her book came out this week. Leicitt Pascual, her book is the Gen X handbook for Middle Age. We're Middle Age. I know. Can you believe it? Yes. We're Middle Age and the golden age. What do you mean? What mean? We're the ones making money now. I Mean allegedly. Allegedly. Yeah We're trying by writing books. Do you these let's talk about this book like what does like Gen X like what I know the boomer archetype and I make fun of them constantly. And I think we'll talk a little bit about that today

1:05.6

because I think they are insufferable. And the boomers think people are like, oh, you'll be old one day, if you make fun of you. It's like, we're not making fun of you because you're old. I think boomers are awful in a very specific way. So what's, how would you define Gen X? Well, to me, Gen X, we're partly what everybody called us.

1:25.5

So like, cynical, they call us slackers,

1:29.3

but I don't think we're... How would you define Gen X? Well, to me, Gen X were partly what everybody called us.

1:25.5

So like cynical, they called us slackers, but I don't think we're slackers, especially compared to newer generations, because we were trying to find work, you know, whether it was like buying stuff and selling it at a higher price at like 10 for me, I would buy the Nowanlators and try and sell them for a quarter. Wait, wait, wait, what's this? What? now and later.

1:42.9

I know, I know now what is our,

1:44.7

I mean, what's this, what do you mean?

1:46.0

Where?

1:46.9

Oh, like I would buy candy or pencils.

1:48.8

Where, when is the, what's this? What? Now and later. No, I know. I don't know what is our, I mean, what's this? What do you mean? Where? Oh, like I would buy candy or pencils. When is the, when I meant like in, you know, third, fourth grade. Oh, okay. Did just anything to make more money. And then finally, like, we were all like ready, not you, but get to get our driver's license, so we could go and get a job and then you don't have that sense of independence. I mean, I think if you grow up in New York, you probably already have some sense of independence, like walking down the crime ridden streets by yourself to school. Well, I gotta tell you though, like, just I start briefly. I, the fact that I've a driver's license amuses a lot of people, and I took an Uber here to the studio, and I discovered a new form of genre of music, which is now I think the worst genre

2:28.2

I've ever heard, which is Country Rap. I had not I did not know it existed. There was a

2:33.6

song. It was so bad. I had to shazam it. And I guess I'm the boomer now being like shaking

2:39.3

my face at this music. And it was called, have you heard of this? Oh, I can't pull it up.

2:44.4

Anyway, have you heard of Country Rap? No, can't pull it up. Anyway, have you heard of Country Wrap?

2:47.0

No, I mean, that's not Jelly Roll, right? Is it? I don't think so. It was two people I'd never heard of. I confused my Jelly Roll because he has tattoos like he's a rapper, but I don't think he is a rapper. It was big ex that plug and Luke Holmes and the song's called Pray Hard. And I think it might be the worst genre I've ever heard.

3:06.9

Pray PR-AY or PR-EY.

3:09.5

No, it's... and Luke Holmes and the songs called Pray Hard. And I think it might be the worst genre I've ever heard.

3:06.9

Pray, P-R-A-Y, or P-R-E-Y. No, it's A. I think it's trying to do some gospel, I was horrific, but anyway, yes. So I don't know. Gospel country rap. Yeah. So go ahead, yeah. So Jen has. Yeah, so I think that we're cynical and all that. And I think now that we're middle age, we're kind of playing into that archetype because

3:26.5

I think we all, at least all that. And I think now that we're middle age, we're kind of playing into that archetype

3:25.7

because I think we all, or at least I did,

3:28.6

grew up thinking I was not getting social security

3:31.8

whereas boomers, they could not even not have that entitlement
