What's going on Lions fans?

Welcome to the Pride of Detroit PODCast.

Here on a wonderful Monday where we are kicking off week two of NFL free agency or maybe in some people's opinion, it's like the first week of free agency because they don't feel like the Lions have done enough.

I'm not really sure where you may lay it on the spectrum, but we are going to be definitely talking about some of the moves the Lions made over the weekend as well as ranking some of our favorite free agent signings to this point. And in segment two, we're going to start looking ahead because I do think there are a number of things that the Lions still need to do in order to help get this roster into contention. So we're going to talk about a couple of those different things. But before we get into that, let me first introduce my amazing co-host. First and foremost, we have your senior editor over at pride of Detroit.com. Ryan Matthews at Ryan underscore POD over there on Twitter. Ryan, how are you feeling this week? Feeling good. Happy pre-St. Paddy's Day, Miko. I don't know if you celebrate. It's, well, a birthday trumps that. My youngest will be nine. So I guess that technically trumps St. Patrick's Day. So it absolutely does. Yeah. Yeah. I'll find a way of like, you know, getting something green in on the day. I don't know. Maybe we'll find a way of like decorating her cake green or something. I don't know how she'll feel about it though. You got to give her like a pinch or something right like if she's not wearing green just a reminder maybe i don't know yeah i don't know she's she's very well aware that her birthday's on st patrick's day so i feel like

she's like ultra prepared because she doesn't want any extra attention than she already is already

that she's already going to get a lot like brad homes huh right i mean listen it's probably a little

bit along the same lines i think a few people would definitely love to pinch Brad Holmes at this point. We also have a guest here, filling in for Jeremy, because he is on vacation right now. Morgan Cannon's here. How are you feeling, my guy? Man, good for Jeremy. It's like, I don't know, 40 and really, really windy here in Detroit. So hopefully the weather's better where he's at. And yeah, and I'm, you know, as someone who's pretty Irish, I don't know, 40 and really, really windy here in Detroit. So hopefully the weather's better where he's at.

And yeah. And I'm, you know, as someone who's pretty Irish, I don't really care about St. Patrick's down. I'm just going to get some corned beef, man. It's like any other Tuesday, you know. See, is it tomorrow? That's a nice move. Yeah, it is tomorrow. Trust me. I had to be reminded to. I'm like, St. Patrick Day is on Wednesday and it's like, nope, the 17th is definitely on a Tuesday.

So my week is already off to a really weird start in terms of me keeping track of the days. But with that said, let's transition into talking about the Lions free agency moves, especially the ones that they made over the weekend, not a whole lot of activity, but again, still adding some pieces. Ryan, in some key areas, I think, maybe not the areas that fans want them to, but if you were just being objective to where the Lions roster is, they go out there, they add another member to their secondary and Roger McCreary on a one-year deal.

And then they also add to their tidying room with Tyler Conklin coming in as well, former CMU alum.

So again, probably not the signings that people were expecting, but still two good

signings that add quality depth to this roster.

Yeah, two moves that, again, I think take, you don't have to spend a day three pick on this,

right?

And I think as the roster continues to round itself out, there's been a lot of these

moves that Brad Holmes has made.

I think arguably, I mean, the one move that he's made that that person's going to be an

outright starter is Cade Mays at center, right?

Like, everybody else seems like a, this is the backup or this is a guy who could end up playing some snaps for us because of injury, whether it be any of the guys they signed, right? Or if it's, hey, you know, when you talk about McCreary, maybe McCreary is going to be in there where who knows where he kind of fits. And I think, you know, Christian's another interesting name. Like we'll talk about him as well later in segment one. But like they have some defensive backs that they've added and I just don't know how it's all going to shake out. But like even a guy like Tyler Conklin, you know, you expect Sam LaPorter to be there. You expect Brock Wright to be there. Tyler Conklin's that depth guy, but we all saw last season how quickly things went sideways once the lines were running out of tight ends and they were, you know, fall starting and

lining up in illegal formations and such. So a veteran guy, I like that they went got a veteran guy,

but it just also continued this trend of like I mentioned filling gaps, but also all like on

one year deals. This is all short term stuff that the lions are doing, which I find really
