0:00.0 | Hi guys, welcome back to Spincere Anarchy. This is your host, Echda. And I have an amazing guest to be today. |
0:08.0 | I am so excited that you have the time to interview. So without further ado, |
0:12.0 | I want to introduce you guys to Lindsay Miller, who is the deputy editor at Pop Sugar. So welcome to the show. |
0:18.0 | Lindsay, I'm so, so excited you're here. |
0:20.0 | Oh, thank you for having me. I'm glad to be here. |
0:26.0 | Such a pleasure. I would love to dive into your career background and how you got into editorial. |
0:32.0 | Was this something you always wanted or can you tell us all the details? |
0:36.0 | Yeah, I mean, I think from a young age, you know, as soon as I learned to read, I loved reading, I loved writing. |
0:43.0 | I just loved stories. So I kind of knew from a really early age that I wanted a career where I could be creative. |
0:50.0 | You know, I wanted to be able to make things at work to tell stories. And then, you know, as I kind of like evolved into college and started thinking more seriously about what that might look like. |
1:00.0 | I was really interested in that time, at that time, in working in magazines and kind of taking that traditional media route. |
1:08.0 | But, you know, after I graduated, I was really open to new opportunities. So, you know, I worked for a traditional magazine. |
1:16.0 | I worked on some websites. And then, you know, when I went to pop sugar, I got the really cool opportunity to start doing kind of like, you know, broadcast with interviewing celebrities for YouTube and TV. |
1:28.0 | And discovered that I really enjoyed that. Yeah, it was fun. I never thought I wanted to do broadcast journalism in journalism school. I was like, oh, I just don't want to be on camera. It's so stressful. |
1:38.0 | And then I realized like, it can actually be really fun to sort of take those chances in your career as they come along and just not be too resistant to pushing yourself and trying new things. |
1:48.0 | I love that. I really love that you said that because, you know, when I first started this podcast, a big motivating factor for me was, well, what about all the editors that make all the celebrities famous? You know, you guys go and you interview, you make this, you know, this content come alive. |
2:06.0 | And so, I love that you said you're a little camera shy and, you know, so I get that. |
2:12.0 | Yes, yeah. But, you know, I think too, honestly, like digital media was kind of just emerging as I went to college. So, the cool thing about working in editorial and media is just that it involves and changes all the time. |
2:25.0 | So, you know, it's really hard to answer a question about like, well, what do you want to be doing in five years? Because you never know what's going to be emerging, right? Like nobody in a TikTok was going to be huge five years ago. And now it's like such an important creative space. |
2:40.0 | Yeah. And look at I just say I still don't understand TikTok. |
2:44.0 | That's fine. There's a lot to learn. I feel like a lot of people feel the same, but it's really fun. Sten some time on it. I think you'll like it. |
2:51.0 | Yeah, no, actually, I need to get more into it. But I want to actually, I want to ask you so tell me the difference between what you described with media and digital. And then, you know, the classic print magazines back in the day, because, you know, I was a total fan of those. |
