Summary
#4. Lin & Larry Pardey are on the podcast! Two of my sailing heroes, whose voyages, articles, books and advice has spanned at least two generations of sailors. I spoke to them from Sweden - they were half a world away in New Zealand - and we chatted Baltic sailing, what it feels like to stay (more or less) in one place after a lifetime of ocean voyaging and what they think of the modern voyaging sailor. Check out Lin's new edition of 'The Care & Feeding of Sailing Crew' on their website at landlpardey.com, and catch them at the Toronto and Chicago Boat Shows this winter. Thanks Lin & Larry!

| 0:00.0 | Hey, welcome to 59 degrees north with Andy Schell. Enjoy the show. |
| 0:05.9 | Hey, hey, hey, welcome back to the 59 degrees north podcast. I'm Andy Shell, and today we're talking to Lynn and Larry Party. |
| 0:12.5 | Lynn and Larry are cruising heroes of mine as well as most everyone else I think that's ever dreamed of going offshore in a sailboat. |
| 0:19.8 | As I talk this intro, I'm sitting in my dad's basement where he's just got bookshelves |
| 0:24.5 | lined with almost every one of their books as well as many of the other classics. |
| 0:29.4 | And it was kind of surreal talking to them after having read those books and heard my dad |
| 0:34.0 | talking about them. |
| 0:35.0 | And pretty amazing that they've survived as, you know, authorities on ocean sailing throughout |
| 0:40.6 | multiple generations of sailors, which I think is really inspiring. |
| 0:44.5 | And one of the main reasons I wanted to talk to them. |
| 0:47.0 | I recorded this one a couple weeks ago when we were still back in Sweden. |
| 0:50.4 | So the interview was on Skype. |
| 0:52.0 | It's not the best audio, but it's not too bad. I think it's reasonable enough. It's always much more fun chatting in person, but this one was kind of cool because I was in Sweden and they were in New Zealand. So half a world away, about it literally as far as you can get. So that was kind of neat. We talked kind of about their cruising careers and what they're doing now |
| 1:12.4 | sort of based semi-permanently in New Zealand and what it felt like for them to realize that they're |
| 1:17.2 | not probably going to be heading off on any longer voyages anytime soon. Among other things, |
| 1:24.1 | we talked a bit about sailing in the Baltic. We got started on that since I was over there at the time. |
| 1:31.1 | Lynn's also got a new edition of the care and feeding of sailing crew coming out, or I think it's out now, actually. |
| 1:38.7 | You can find that on their website, along with all the other books they do. |
| 1:42.3 | Their website's L&L l party dot com and that's |
| 1:45.9 | p a r d e y um a few other things they're doing they've been invited to the toronto and |
| 1:50.8 | chicago boat shows where they'll be doing some seminars so check them out there this winter |
| 1:55.7 | uh the chicago boat shows in january and the toronto boat show is shortly before that, early January, I think. |
