But before we get to that, let's recap what's going on in the

overall awards race. I'm currently up at the Palm Springs International

Film Festival where a lot of talent has cycled through in recent days from

Will Smith and Charlie Kaufman to all nine of the filmmakers whose films

have been shortlisted for the best foreign language film Oscar, with whom I just moderated

a panel, video of which will be airing on THR very soon.

I arrived here this afternoon from New York which has been a hotbed

of awards insanity over the last few days with the New York Film Critics Circle Awards,

the National Border Review Awards, and a lot of other stuff scheduled around then, but things are heading

back shortly to Los Angeles where Friday will bring the AFI Awards

lunch in, Saturday the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, and

Sunday the Golden Globe Awards.
