AG and RH sit down with Ron Horton, a local CFII and Designated Pilot Examiner.  Ron has an aviation background spanning nearly six decades and he has been recognized for his safe flying and outstanding flight instruction. Ron currently instructs at Aerowood Aviation in Monroe, NC at the EQY airport and conducts checkrides as a DPE.  We discussed checkride preparation, ground and oral scenarios, common pitfalls on the flight portion, and Ron’s advice on how to set students up for success on their next examination.  Ron discusses what he thinks are the two biggest changes in general aviation in the last 50 years and reminisces about his brightest students.

Ron is our friend and pilot from down to the southwest Metroplex area.

Ron soloed and earned his student pilot certificate.

He soloed on his 16th birthday in 1966.

Ron is currently working as an instructor and a designated pilot examiner at the Metroplex Bravo.

He is rated in single engine airplanes, land and sea, and a certified flight instructor.

He is a designated pilot examiner for single engine private instrument commercial and the add-on CFI ratings. He can't do the initials, but he can do CFI instrument, single engine CFI for someone who already has a multi-CFI. And a CFI reinstatement. He has more than 2,300 flying hours than a Skyhawk.
